I'm pleased to announce that of over 160 entrants I was one of 20 to receive an honourable mention for my string orchestra work Stop All The Clocks.
You can hear it on my MySpace page.
The piece was described by judges as an "impressive work that deserve to be recognized" which "stood out in particular for (its) outstanding quality and emotional power". Over at www.sibeliusmusic.com it was described by reviewer Trevor Kirby-Smith as being a "superbly written" piece of music which was "truly inspirational".
Even though I wasn't one of the 3 selected finalists, my friend Andrew Lowe Watson got through so I am really pleased for him! He is a seriously gifted composer who doesn't take himself too seriously and his work is genuinely accessible as well as being well constructed... so if that's what it takes to get into the final 3, then I don't mind losing out at all.
All in all well pleased!
